The Museum School, a public charter school that keeps the arts in education, in collaboration with The Friends of the Museum School Foundation and Luis De Jesus Seminal Projects, is pleased to announce “A Bright New Future—The Museum School 2008 Benefit Art Auction”, to be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008, from 6 to 9 pm. This year’s annual fundraiser to support the programs of the Museum School will feature contributions from a notable group of local and national contemporary artists, as well as a special selection of original art works by Museum School students. This event will allow Museum School students the unique opportunity to exhibit their own work alongside renowned artists in a professional exhibition space. All proceeds from the silent and live auctions will go toward supporting the programs of the Museum School.
Seminal Projects gallery will be open for previews and for silent bidding on all works to be auctioned on July 10 and 11 from 11am until 6pm, and on July 12, from 11am to 3pm. It will reopen at 6pm and the live auction will commence at 7:30 pm. Among the participating artists are: JW Caldwell, Ben Darby, Einar & Jamex de la Torre, Thomas DeMello, Brian Dick, Paul Drohan, William Feeney, Branan Freeman, Amber George, Jeremy Gercke, Steve Gibson, Nathan Gluck, David Harrison, Amy Hyde, Lindy Ivey, Wendell Kling, Joshua Krause, Heather Martin, Marie Najera, Marliis Newsome, Chauney Peck, Jason Sherry, Richard Reyes, Perry Vasquez, Zuri Waters, Allison Wiese, Pamela Yaeger, and many others, as well as 76 Museum School Students.
Currently in its tenth year, the Museum School continues its mission to provide project-based learning that infuses the arts into the regular curriculum. In pursuit of its core educational philosophy, “learning for life”, this top-ranked school has adopted an innovative program that incorporates the basics of math, English, arts, and science, into an ever-evolving curriculum that includes diverse subjects from international world music, video art history, and cooking, to Spanish, zoology, and micro-financing—along with frequent visits to nearby museums in Balboa Park. The Museum School is open to all students based on an open lottery system—there is no tuition or admissions test. The school has a tremendous record of success and is expanding for the coming school year to serve grades K-6.
Luis De Jesus Seminal Projects opened in September 2007 in the Little Italy district of San Diego. In this brief time, the gallery has quickly become one of the most cutting edge venues for contemporary art in the city, featuring a program of consistently innovative, high quality, and conceptually rigorous exhibitions.
